I personally have NF. My mom had NF too. She passed away in 2024. Plus some of her family had NF like her brother and his kids.

About Neurofibromatosis (NF)

Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a group of genetic disorders that cause tumors to form on nerves throughout the body. These tumors are usually benign (non-cancerous) but can sometimes become malignant or cause serious complications by pressing on nerves or other tissues.

There are three main types:

NF1 (Neurofibromatosis Type 1): The most common form. Signs often appear in childhood and include café-au-lait spots, freckling in the armpits or groin, neurofibromas on or under the skin, bone abnormalities, and possible learning difficulties. NF2 (Neurofibromatosis Type 2): Rarer and usually diagnosed in teens or young adults. It is characterized by tumors on the auditory nerves, leading to hearing loss, balance problems, and tinnitus. Schwannomatosis: The rarest form, involving multiple schwannomas that cause chronic pain, but typically without hearing loss.

NF is usually inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, though it can also occur from new genetic mutations. There is no cure, but treatment focuses on monitoring, managing symptoms, and removing tumors when necessary. Early diagnosis and regular medical follow-up are important for improving quality of life.
