Tips to try to get at least one rubber duck from each of the 50 states

Here are some tips that could help you get at least one rubber duck from
each of the 50 states by your 50th birthday.

These could help with whatever you’re wanting to try to get from each of the 50 states by a certain time. In my case, it was for rubber ducks.

I’ve been seeing other people in a rubber duck groups on Facebook saying they want to do the same thing. And I’ve been trying to give them advice and tips and I don’t know if they’re taking it or not.

I shared these tips based on my journey with trying to get at least one rubber duck from each of the 50 states by my 50th birthday. It’s always good to get advice from somebody who went through a similar journey.

Here are some of my recommendations:

Plan ahead mine took almost exactly one year

I highly recommend that you plan way ahead to try this journey. I started on my 49th birthday to try to get all 50 states by my 50th birthday and I’m at two weeks out and I have one state left so I almost didn’t get it so plan ahead.

Set up a PO Box

This is important I would set up a post office box so not everybody has your home address. This can help keep your privacy and preventing strangers from showing up at your residence.

Social Media

Set up an account the various on social media outlets like a Facebook page (not your personal profile), TikTok, Instagram, etc. and post your videos and about your journey on that those social media outlets.

Post unboxing

People like watching unboxing videos, so post the video of you unboxing what you were given. But make sure to not reveal the person’s address that sent it to you.

Pin on a map

Somehow make sure to pin what state you get either by some kind of map and putting a pin on it and/or keep a list of the states that you received a rubber duck from and a list of the states that will help you complete your journey to having at least one rubber duck from each of the 50 states.

Thank you note

Be sure to write a thank you note or card to those who took the time to send you a rubber duck from their state. This shows a personal connection and that you truly are sincere about what was given to you. People love personal notes handwrite it. I had my thank you card designed and professionally printed you can use general thank you cards or whatever.

Website or blog

If you can set up a website or a blog and keep a list of the states that you need or you have already received. You may be able to be found a little bit more if you have a website or a blog as well as posted on your social media.

Networking

It’s all about networking and self-promotion. Make friends that can help you share your journey. Go to Jeep and rubber duck events. Share your progress. To also about all the connections you can make and the connections that they can make to help you I couldn’t have done mine without the help of fellow collectors, Jeep enthusiast, and duck cruising friends.

Write places

Another tip is right places tell them about your journey that you’re going on. You might be surprised at the response you get or help you might get.

  • Do a press release and send it out to the newspaper, TV stations, and radio stations, etc.
  • Write Chamber of Commerce
  • Write visitor centers
  • Write businesses that you know that might hand out rubber ducks
  • This list can go on
